In the main menu screen, when it shows "Sites," does this refer to internet sites that I've visited?

Also, in the Preferences, under Advanced, there's an option to "Enable beta updates." If I leave this unchecked, will I still be notified when a new full version is released?

Sorry I am not seeing "Sites" mentioned anywhere in the main window. Can you be more explicit about exactly where in the window you are seeing it? A screen shot would be great.

But ClamXAV doesn't keep track of web sites you visit, so it would likely be something else.

Yes.

I don't see "virus definitions" anywhere. I'm guessing that's included in the "Malware Updates." Is this correct?

Yes. Virus and Anti-Virus are legacy terms commonly used by many users and software vendors alike, but it technically only refers to a type of malicious software that, when executed, replicates itself by modifying other computer programs and inserting its own code.

The modern and more accurate term is Malware (malicious software) which includes computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses, ransomware, spyware, adware, and scareware, among other terms.

Sometimes when I start up, I get a "Fatal Error" alert from ClamXav 3. But I don't have ClamX as a startup item. After that, if I start ClamX, everything seems to function as it should. I just thought I should report this "Fatal Error" occurrence.

This can happen if your computer hasn't yet connected to the internet when ClamXAV attempts to do the update. It should complete properly if you manually select "Update Malware Database" from the ClamXAV Menu Item.

It's been previously reported and they are looking into a permanent solution.

It seems that the Malware Database updates are almost instantaneous. I've seen 8 seconds, even 1 second. Is this possible? Could the Malware Database not be updating, and I'm just getting a false positive report that it is? Is there any way to tell how many Malware definitions are in the Database?

In the ClamXAV app window's toolbar, click on "View Reports" then the "Database Updates" tab to see the results of each attempt at an update. Under normal circumstances, there is only one per day so most of those short ones will say "Malware database already up to date". A few may say "Malware database update failed (n)".

When you see a "Malware database updated successfully" along with new Database version numbers then you know you are up-to-date. The latest version numbers along with the date and time of the last actual update are also shown in the status bar at the bottom of the ClamXAV app window.
