Do I simply delete both files and let the update do its thing to correct the problem??

That should work. The result should be that a new main.cvd will be downloaded at the next update. This has an advantage of having a smaller main.cvd than the current main.cld since it's compressed.

If the main.cvd is older than the modification date of main.cld, then clearly that's the one that needs to go.

The guidance giving to another user from the Help Desk recently was to reinstall the scanning engine:

- Make sure ClamXAV isn't running (click the ClamXAV menu -> Quit ClamXAV)

- Then, hold down the shift key and the option (sometimes labelled "alt") key on your keyboard whilst launching ClamXAV. Keep holding the keys until you see a message asking you to install the scanning engine. Follow the prompts to do the reinstall and then try updating virus definitions again.

Thanks for the reply. I deleted both files and reran the update. The folder in question (/usr/local/clamXav/share/clamav/) now looks like tis:

-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 30K 30 Apr 13:11 ClamXav.blacklist
-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 80K 27 Apr 11:51 ClamXav.database
-rw-rw-r--@ 1 _clamav _clamav 65B 27 Apr 19:57 ClamXav.database.signature
-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 2.2K 13 Apr 17:30 ClamXav.fp
-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 64M 30 Apr 10:48 ClamXav.hdb
-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 953B 13 Apr 17:30 ClamXav.ign2
-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 10K 2 Feb 15:39 ClamXav.ldb
-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 6.1K 13 Apr 17:30 ClamXav.ndb
-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 749K 13 Apr 17:30 bytecode.cld
-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 131M 29 Apr 12:29 daily.cld
-rw-rw-rw- 1 _clamav _clamav 553B 30 Apr 21:13 freshclam.log
-rw-rw-r-- 1 _clamav _clamav 112M 12 Feb 12:51 main.cvd

Does that look OK as I note that main.cld no longer exists only main.cvd ?

Kind Regards
