Virus Definition Update Frequence

Postby robby » Sat 20 Jan 2018 9:34 am

Why is it checking every 10s for a new update? IMO such a frequency just doesn't make a lot of sense.

ClamXAV only checks for Virus Definition Updates under the following conditions:

  • Launching ClamXAV with "Update virus definitions on launch" enabled in General Preferences.
  • Clicking the "Update Definitions" icon in the ClamXAV app window toolbar.
  • Selecting "Update Virus Definitions" from the ClamXAV menu or typing <Command>-U.
  • No more than once daily if you enable "Update Virus Definitions" in Schedule Preferences.
  • At login if you have "Launch ClamXAV Sentry when you log in to this computer" enabled in ClamXAV Sentry Preferences.
  • Selecting "Update Virus Definitions" from the Sentry icon menu.
Updated definitions are normally only made available from the server once a day.

Checking every 10 seconds would indicate an issue with your installation and nobody has ever reported this before.

Off the top of my head I can't think of anything that would cause this, so I think should submit a ticket to the ClamXAV Help Desk and perhaps submit some diagnostics.

Problem apparently resolved itself after a reboot.
